Whitman-Walker Health Peer Support is a free, volunteer based service that has been offered at Whitman Walker since the organization began. It matches trained volunteers to peers from the community looking for support in various areas of their life. volunteers are not expected to be professionals or licensed counselors – they are just there to provide a listening ear.

We are specifically looking for members of the trans community to help expand the support we are able to offer! We are looking for people across the gender identity spectrum interested in volunteering as individual and group counselors for others in need of support. Volunteers do not need to have prior mental health counseling experience, as they will be trained by the staff at WWH. After the training, commitment to the program is flexible to your availability – the average volunteer time is one hour a week or a few hours every other week.

Our next training will be in early December – if you are interested, please contact David Klein at 202-939-7646 or email at peersupport@whitman-walker.org.
